Telomere & Telomerase

Targeting aging at the cellular level

What are Telomeres?

Telomeres are protective caps at the ends of chromosomes that shorten with each cell division. When telomeres become too short, cells enter senescence and stop dividing.

Telomerase is an enzyme that can lengthen telomeres. Some companies are developing gene therapies to activate telomerase as an anti-aging intervention.

Research Progress

Libella Gene Therapeutics is conducting clinical trials using AAV vectors to deliver the telomerase (TERT) gene. Other approaches include telomerase activators like TA-65 (a compound derived from the astragalus plant).
