研究问题
However, the predominantly unidimensional approach to loneliness may provide only a partial picture.;However, most evidence concerns overall loneliness, and considerably less is known about whether these factors are differentially associated with emotional and social loneliness.;However, evidence for dimension-specific associations remains heterogeneous.
方法
We use data from the German Family Demography Panel Study (FReDA) [, ], a large-scale representative survey of the German population aged 18–51.;We excluded respondents who identified their gender as diverse (N = 46) due to the insufficient sample size, which did not allow for separate analyses.;Analyses were conducted on complete cases, resulting in the exclusion of respondents with missing values for any of the variables of interest (N = 5,727).;This results in a final sample size of N = 14,443.
核心结论
The prevalence of intense loneliness is higher for social loneliness (35.8%).;Social loneliness, however, is more polarised (mean = 1.56), with many scoring 0 (31.0%) or 3 (35.8%).;Overall loneliness was most pronounced among 18-25-year-olds (mean: 1.50; 95% CI: 1.46, 1.53, p < .001), lower in the 26–30 age group (mean: 1.38; 95% CI: 1.34, 1.42, p < .001), and somewhat higher again in older age groups, with a mean of 1.47 (95% CI: 1.42, 1.51, p < .001) in the 46-51-year-olds. ‖ 结论:These findings highlight the relevance of considering loneliness dimensions alongside their psychosocial context in future research and the development and evaluation of public health strategies.
局限
Importantly, these authors identified the lack of differentiation between emotional and social loneliness as a key limitation of the existing literature.;These circumstances may coincide with differences in social connectedness, perceived exclusion and unmet relational needs [, ], although our cross-sectional data do not allow us to examine such processes directly.;Recent longitudinal evidence from Germany further suggests heterogeneity in associations between migration background, loneliness and mental health, particularly by age at migration.
