研究问题
However, because HL is influenced by social, cultural, and healthcare-system contexts, findings may vary across populations and countries.;While the relationship between HL and lifestyle-related health behaviors has been investigated in different Turkish populations, the current evidence remains fragmented, with findings varying across demographic and clinical contexts [, ], most have been conducted in clinical or hospital settings and therefore have limited representativeness for the general older population.;In addition, although HL is known to be strongly influenced by sociocultural and regional factors, community-based evidence regarding these associations remains limited in Balikesir Province, one of the regions in Turkey characterized by an older demographic structure and a relatively high proportion of older adults living alone [].
方法
Using Epi Info version 7.2, assuming a population of 6,580 older adults, an expected prevalence of 25% [, ], a 3% margin of error, 5% Type I error rate, and a design effect of 1.5, the minimum required sample size was calculated as 1,071 participants.;Ultimately, 1,094 participants were recruited using multistage sampling.;For regression analyses, HL was dichotomized into adequate/excellent versus problematic-limited / inadequate categories to ensure statistical stability and sufficient cell sizes in multivariable models.;Participants’ physical activity levels were evaluated based on self-reported weekly frequency and duration of moderate-intensity exercise.
核心结论
In bivariate analyses, age, gender, marital status, education level, perceived income, perceived health status, presence of chronic disease, and first point of healthcare contact were found to be significantly associated with HL status (p < 0.05).;In the multivariable GEE model adjusted for covariates, participants aged ≥ 80 years showed higher odds of problematic-limited / inadequate HL compared with those aged 65–79 years (OR = 1.70; 95% CI: 1.02–2.85; p = 0.042).;Participants with moderate/poor health perception also had higher odds compared with those reporting good/very good health (OR = 1.93; 95% CI: 1.26–2.95; p = 0.002). ‖ 结论:These results support the need for community-based interventions designed to enhance HL among older adults.
局限
However, given the cross-sectional design of the study, causal inferences regarding the role of age cannot be established.;However, the cross-sectional design prevents conclusions regarding the direction of this association.;This finding should be interpreted cautiously because the relevant subgroup was relatively small and the confidence interval was wide.
