研究问题
The objective of the present study was to determine the influence of environmental parameters on the distribution of snails encountered with an emphasis on the impact of prey availability on the survival of Sepedon (P) ruficeps and Sepedon (S) nasuta larvae.;These snails were used to assess feeding preference, regardless of whether they were infected or not.;The containers were observed three times a day, and the consumed snails were replaced, respecting their size and whether or not they were parasitized.
方法
According to WHO (2020), at least 251.4 million people have needed preventive treatment against schistosomiasis in 2021, of whom more than 75.3 million should have been treated.;Samples were kept in plastics containing water from the sampling site and transported live to the laboratory where snails were identified using the morphological identification key of Brown and Kristensen (1993) mainly based on the form of the snail shell.;The morphological identification of the adults caught was carried out under a binocular microscope or under a microscope on essential characteristics of morphology concerning the general cholotaxy, the coloring, the post abdomen of the males mounted in a drop of glycerin.Water physicochemical parameters at the snail collection sitesEnvironment factors were measured at each collection snail station (Sonon, Acron, Djidja) including pH, O2, salinity, conductivity, Total Dissolved Substance (TDS) and Temperature were collected in situ with the multi-parameter Odeon Photopod version 5.0.1.
核心结论
Despite all this progress, the persistence of active outbreaks and rapid reinfection of populations demonstrate the limitations of a strategy focused primarily on chemotherapy.Vector control against intermediate host snails is an additional pillar recommended by the WHO.;B. globosus= Bulinus globosus,I. exustus= Indoplanorbis exustus,Physa= Physa acuta,B. pfeifferi = Biomphalaria pfeifferi Physicochemical parameters related to the snail distributionThe water quality was demonstrated by the physicochemical parameters (Table 1).;Overall, 31 larvae (91.17%) successfully reached the L3 stage by day 4, while one larva (2.94%) reached a more advanced larval stage by day 5.
局限
However, frequent use of molluscicides can have a negative impact on the environment, recurring costs, and a potential impact on aquatic biodiversity (dos Santos et al. 2014).;Despite all this progress, the persistence of active outbreaks and rapid reinfection of populations demonstrate the limitations of a strategy focused primarily on chemotherapy.Vector control against intermediate host snails is an additional pillar recommended by the WHO.;Vector snails, on the other hand, proliferate in shallow waters rich in vegetation and organic matter, conditions frequently found in irrigated perimeters and areas of human contact. Thus, given the limitations of current strategies for controlling schistosomiasis, exploring the potential of Sciomyzidae, particularly Sepedon larvae, appears to be a promising avenue for strengthening an integrated and sustainable approach to controlling intermediate host snails.
