研究问题
Bimanual coordination is the ability to execute coordinated movements with both hands in a spatially and temporally organized manner [1].
方法
This study used a 2 × 2 mixed design, with age group as the between-participant factor and coordination mode as the within-participant factor.;The nonsphericity correction was set to ε = 1.00, as the within-participant factor had only two levels.;The results indicated that a minimum total sample size of 34 participants (i.e., 17 per group) was necessary to achieve a statistical power level of 80%.;To address the uncertainty regarding the actual statistical power, forty-five right-handed adults were recruited from Tianjin, comprising 23 younger adults (10 men; 18–26 years, M = 20.30 years) and 22 older adults (8 men and 14 women; 57–70 years, M = 64.64 years).
核心结论
In the primary cohort (N = 42), the older adults were less accurate overall, F(1, 40) = 9.54, p = 0.004, η2G = 0.156, and accuracy was lower in the anti-phase than in-phase condition, F(1, 40) = 35.96, p < 0.001, η2G = 0.168.;These effects were qualified by an Age Group × Coordination interaction, F(1, 40) = 18.54, p < 0.001, η2G = 0.094, reflecting a larger age-group difference in the anti-phase condition.;Raw RT showed significant effects of Age Group, F(1, 40) = 53.18, p < 0.001, η2G = 0.536, Coordination Mode, F(1, 40) = 198.03, p < 0.001, η2G = 0.393, and their interaction, F(1, 40) = 25.43, p < 0.001, η2G = 0.077. ‖ 结论:The present study identified age-related differences in behavioral performance and electrophysiological responses during a discrete bimanual coordination task.
局限
Although all older participants met the MMSE eligibility criterion, this screening measure alone cannot rule out mild cognitive impairment.;Future studies using response-locked analyses, response-separated windows, or component decomposition are needed to distinguish these contributions.
