研究问题

Fractures are a serious public health concern that poses a significant burden.;The substantial implications of fractures include pain, disability, mortality and healthcare expenses [, ].

方法

Data for this study were collected from participants enrolled in the Geelong Osteoporosis Study (GOS): 1494 females were recruited between 1993 and 1997, and 1539 males between 2001 and 2006.;GOS is a population-based cohort study carried out in southeastern Australia.;Participants were selected at random from the Australian electoral roll of the Barwon Statistical Division.;Informed written consent was provided by all participants.

核心结论

They also had lower physical activity, lower dietary calcium intake, lower height, lower ALM/h2 and lower bone mineral density at the spine and hip.;Higher glucose, total cholesterol, LDL and PINP levels were observed among those with fractures.;No significant differences were observed for BMI, waist circumference, smoking, alcohol intake, falls, serum β-CTX-I, use of thyroid hormones or use of agents affecting calcium metabolism. ‖ 结论:These findings align with clinical evidence that fragility fractures in older adults arise from the interplay between declining bone strength, impaired balance, reduced mobility and multimorbidity.

局限

A key limitation of many previous studies is their reliance on a single, static measurement, which may not reflect changes over time.;However, similar to much of the existing literature, we were unable to assess dose dependency, which remains an important unresolved limitation.;This null association should be interpreted cautiously.

对本项目的价值

★☆☆☆☆ 衰弱/肌少症是少有的已有监管认可终点的老年综合征,是临床转化的最短路径。
