研究问题
Consequently, the relationship between global biometric changes and localized structural remodeling of the crystalline lens during accommodation remains poorly understood.;Our aim was to quantify the distribution of accommodative changes in the eye, with a specific focus on the structural regions of the lens, and to determine which zones contribute most to lens deformation.;By integrating measurements of intraocular distance, curvature, and zonal thickness, we sought to provide a clinically interpretable, depth-resolved description of accommodative behavior.
方法
Cross-sectional optical images of the crystalline lens reveal characteristic light and dark regions, referred to as optical signal discontinuity (OSD) zones, which serve as markers of the internal structure and organization of the lens [ 15 , 17 ].;Methods This prospective study was conducted in accordance with the tenets of the Declaration of Helsinki and was approved by the Bioethics Committee at the Nicolaus Copernicus University (KB 171/2024).;SS-OCT was performed using a microelectromechanical systems tunable vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser with a central wavelength of 1060 nm.
核心结论
These results indicated a good agreement between the predicted and reference masks, with little over-segmentation and few missed boundary pixels.;These findings indicate that accommodative deformation is concentrated within the inner cortical layers, whereas the peripheral zones remain relatively stable.;Taken together, these metrics indicated negligible corneal involvement in accommodative deformation.
局限
Although accommodation has been extensively studied, most research has focused on ocular biometric parameters and may not fully capture the complex internal reorganization of the crystalline lens underlying accommodative functions [ 5 , 7 – 9 ].;However, segmentation of the cortical C4 zone is usually challenging.
