研究问题

However, our previous work did not examine whether smartphone proficiency is associated with performing a specific digitally mediated daily activity, particularly financial activities.Digital financial literacy provides a useful framework for examining this issue.;It encompasses conventional financial knowledge and skills as well as competencies required to use digitally delivered financial products and services, operate digital tools, and recognize and manage risks associated with digital transactions (11–13) From this perspective, smartphone access may represent one component of participation in digital financial activities, whereas practical proficiency in using digital devices may also be relevant to whether such activities can be performed in everyday life.;Based on the digital financial literacy framework, we hypothesized that e-money use would differ by smartphone proficiency level, with moderate- and high-proficiency groups showing greater use than groups with limited access or proficiency, even after accounting for relevant sociodemographic, cognitive, health-related, and financial management factors.

方法

Second, e-money use was evaluated through a face-to-face, assessor-administered assessment of participants' everyday financial activities.;Based on the digital financial literacy framework, we hypothesized that e-money use would differ by smartphone proficiency level, with moderate- and high-proficiency groups showing greater use than groups with limited access or proficiency, even after accounting for relevant sociodemographic, cognitive, health-related, and financial management factors.;Clarifying these associations may help identify older adults requiring additional support to participate in increasingly cashless environments and inform educational and support strategies for digital financial activities in later life.MethodParticipantsThis cross-sectional study used data from a community-based health check-up program conducted in 2025 in Tarumizu City, Kagoshima Prefecture, Japan.

核心结论

The PADA-D has demonstrated high internal consistency and criterion validity (16).;The original MDPQ-16 has demonstrated good internal consistency (17), and a previous systematic review suggested that it is an appropriate measure of digital literacy among older adults because it comprehensively assesses mobile device proficiency (18).;The NCGG-FAT has demonstrated moderate to high validity and high test-retest reliability among community-dwelling older adults (22, 23).

局限

Financial capacity may decline in the early stages of cognitive impairment, including mild cognitive impairment, and difficulties in money management may precede more apparent functional dependence (3–5) Thus, financial management is both an indicator of functional independence and an essential domain for continued independent living in the community. However, contemporary financial management extends beyond conventional cash handling, bankbook management, and face-to-face transactions.;However, our previous work did not examine whether smartphone proficiency is associated with performing a specific digitally mediated daily activity, particularly financial activities.Digital financial literacy provides a useful framework for examining this issue.;However, because this study was cross-sectional and did not examine individual MDPQ domains in relation to e-money use, the usefulness of the MDPQ as a screening tool and the proficiency domains most relevant to payment tasks require further investigation.Practical proficiency may represent only one dimension of successful technology use.
