研究问题

It is also distinct from medication adherence, which is a behavioral outcome that may result from—rather than constitute—this burden, and from polypharmacy, which denotes objective medication exposure (the number of medications) rather than the perceived burden itself.;We hypothesized that higher health literacy would be associated with greater perceived social support, which in turn would be associated with lower MRB, such that health literacy would show a statistically significant indirect association with MRB through social support.Material and MethodsTheoretical/Conceptual FrameworkThis study is grounded in the Cumulative Complexity Model (CCM) and the Health Literacy Skills (HLS) framework.;Marital status was excluded because its distribution was uneven (78.3% had a spouse) and it partly overlapped conceptually with living status, which captured whether participants lived alone.

方法

Furthermore, secondary prevention is essential following an acute cardiovascular event; discontinuation or errors in medication therapy can directly lead to increased risks of rehospitalization and adverse clinical outcomes.4 These clinical particularities suggest that older patients with CMDs should be understood not as simply older patients with chronic diseases but as a population requiring medication management that accounts for their higher risk and greater complexity.;Older adults with low health literacy are at high risk of committing medication errors due to their inability to properly manage complex drug regimens14 which has been associated with poor adherence and increased 30-day readmission rates.15,16For CMD patients, the presence of multiple comorbidities requires advanced information comprehension and judgment, including managing interactions among multiple medications.;Low health literacy may lead to excessive anxiety and loss of control due to insufficient understanding of medication effects and risks17 and has been associated with higher medication costs, which may add to MRB.18 Consequently, health literacy may be a key individual capability associated with MRB among older patients with CMDs.However, older adults’ health behaviors cannot be fully explained by these individual capacities (health literacy) alone.

核心结论

Furthermore, secondary prevention is essential following an acute cardiovascular event; discontinuation or errors in medication therapy can directly lead to increased risks of rehospitalization and adverse clinical outcomes.4 These clinical particularities suggest that older patients with CMDs should be understood not as simply older patients with chronic diseases but as a population requiring medication management that accounts for their higher risk and greater complexity.;Solid arrows indicate hypothesized directions of association rather than causal effects; given the cross-sectional design, they do not represent a demonstrated temporal sequence.;This study used the instrument translated into Korean, which was validated for reliability and validity by Park et al39 The instrument demonstrated high internal consistency, with Cronbach alpha values of 0.88 at development, 0.95 in the study by Park et al,39 and 0.96 in the present study.Data AnalysisParticipants’ general characteristics along with levels of health literacy, social support, and MRB are summarized using descriptive statistics; skewness and kurtosis were computed to assess the normality of the variables.

局限

Low health literacy may lead to excessive anxiety and loss of control due to insufficient understanding of medication effects and risks17 and has been associated with higher medication costs, which may add to MRB.18 Consequently, health literacy may be a key individual capability associated with MRB among older patients with CMDs.However, older adults’ health behaviors cannot be fully explained by these individual capacities (health literacy) alone.;Stronger perceived social support may in turn be associated with lower psychological anxiety and management difficulties when taking multiple medications, and with lower perceived MRB.It should be noted, however, that this pathway is unlikely to be strictly unidirectional.;This finding should be interpreted with caution rather than as evidence that medication complexity is unimportant.
